Kidney Weed is a Australian native evergreen groundcover with a naturally mat forming, prostrate, and spreading habit. It’s a useful choice for groundcover, lawn alternative, and waterwise / low maintenance, especially when you want a plant that has a clear role in the landscape without making the design feel overworked. It performs well in full sun, part shade, and shade, giving you some flexibility when choosing the right position. With a mature scale of around <15cm high and 0.6–1m wide, it’s also straightforward to plan spacing and understand the role it will play as the garden develops.
